“Herbivore-fire interactions across spatial and temporal scales”

Large-mammalian herbivores can limit fire in grassy systems by reducing fuels, but what factors control the magnitude of this effect and if it is relevant to fire activity at broad scales is still largely unknown. Here, I combine experimental, remote sensing, and paleoecological datasets to show that herbivores have strong impacts on fuel loads and fire activity across multiple spatial and temporal scales, and that these impacts vary with grazer abundance.
