Urban Systems

Crafting blueprints for regenerative cities.

Urban populations are expected to grow by roughly 170,000 per day, every day through 2050.

Cities are a recent development in human history. Yet the United Nations reports that people living in urban areas outnumber those in rural settings. Yale works at the forefront of monitoring, quantifying, and assessing these trends, along with the implications for local, regional, and global ecosystems.

As the world continues to urbanize and the need for this work grows more urgent, Yale is eager to answer the questions that cities raise and design solutions to ensure they are thriving, regenerative, and resilient.
