Biodiversity Loss

Conserving and protecting the astonishing variety of life on Earth.

The loss of biological diversity is often compared to a burning library in which most of the books have never been identified, let alone read and studied.

The breadth and depth of Yale’s excellence in the physical, natural, and applied sciences and engineering uniquely positions the university to lead innovative solutions that restore biodiversity and advance human health and well-being.

Developing Rwandan Capacity in On-Farm Native Species Restoration Processes

Restoring degraded land in the global tropics is a massive challenge, not least because many of these lands are under intense cultivation on small farms. Since 2006, Yale’s Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative (ELTI) has conducted multi-disciplinary training workshops in the Neotropics and in Southeast Asia in the skills needed to undertake such restoration.
